Tervalepikon Torpat Holiday cabins

Tervalepikon Torpat holiday cottages are located within a two-hour drive from Helsinki, close to Lahti and Heinola. The cottages offer quality accommodation throughout the year amidst beautiful and tranquil lakeland scenery. The cottages are only a 10-minute drive from the shops, and the local activities are within easy reach.

Tainan Tupa holiday cottage stands on a small pine-wood hill about 50 metres from the lake. This well-equipped cottage rates five stars according to the nationwide MALO quality classification. The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen, three bedrooms (6+2 beds and a crib), a living room with fireplace, two toilets and a wood-heated sauna with a washing room and dressing room.

Vesan Villa holiday cottage, built in 2006, is also a five-star log cottage for use all year round. This 120 m² two-storied cottage and its three bedrooms – with an additional bed in the hall upstairs and a cot – offer plenty of room for comfortable accommodation. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is tableware for twelve persons. After bathing in the wood-heated sauna it’s nice to relax by the fireplace.

Villa Ebba is a nostalgic, lovingly restored grandma’s cottage, which is set in a sunny location overlooking fields. Ebba offers accommodation for 2–3 persons. It is fully equipped and guests are pampered with an open air wood-heated design pool.

Linnaistensuo Mire

Linnaistensuo mire, located only seven kilometres from the centre of Lahti, is a nationally valuable raised bog. The tranquil mire landscape can be admired from the duckboard trail crossing it. Linnaistensuo mire is part of the national mire conservation programme and one of the sites of Salpausselkä UNESCO Global Geopark.
On Linnaistensuo mire, surrounded by mixed forests, moist hollows alternate with drier hummocks. The flora of mire is typical for raised bogs and the representativeness of the mire makes it valuable protected site.
The nature trail, about 1,5 kilometres long, runs mostly on duckboard trail. The information boards along the way tell about the mire ecosystem. Linnaistensuo mire can be reached along Korvenrannantie or Linnaistentie and Ilolantie roads. The paths leading to the duckboard trail are marked on the trees with yellow paint.

Päijänne National Park

The pristine waters of Lake Päijänne wash the sandy shores of a chain of islands formed by an esker ridge that dates back to the Ice Age. Take a boat trip or rent a kayak and explore the park’s many islands and their sandy coves and rocky shores. The nature trail at Pulkkilanharju ridge, accessible by road, also offers fine lakekand views. Look out for ospreys soaring over the lake.

Möysä beach is one of the most popular beaches in Lahti , only 15 -20 minutes walk from the city center.
Sandy beach and pure water attracts people to enjoy summer days at the beach.

Kammiovuori Hill

Located in Vintturi, Sysmä, Kammiovuori Hill is the highest point in East Häme, and from its peak opens up a magnificent view far out over the area’s forests and lakes. Along the route, which winds through a hilly and atmospheric forest landscape, the sites to be seen include the seven metre high “Sysmä Linta” boulder and Hiskias Cave, which according to tradition was home to a hermit who lived on Kammiovuori Hill at the beginning of the 20th-century. Along the route there are also information boards which introduce the area’s diverse nature. Kammiovuori is also a part of Salpausselkä UNESCO Global Geopark and is also a valuable rocky outcrop area. Finland´s ancient solid bedrock is intersected by cracks and fractures. One such location is in the western edge of the Kammiovuori Hill.
About 2 billion years ago the area which is now Southern Finland rose as a result of a collision between the tectonic plates to form the Alps-like Svekofennic mountain range. Granoduiorite and other rock types formed deep under the ground then rose towards the surface. Over millions of years even the higher mountains were worn the forces of nature. The cliffs in our area, like Kammiovuori, are remnants of the lower parts of this ancient mountain range.
Despite the challenging landscape, Kammiovuori Hill is also a popular hiking destination for families. In Autumn 2017, steps were constructed along the steepest parts of the route, and pleasant locations for stopping to eat include the table located at the viewpoint or the shelter constructed close to the return route.

Enjoy lake nature with this relaxing kayak trip. Depending on the weather we will choose our route between Kukkasjärvi lakes and Salajärvi lake. We have a break with a nice view to the lake. After snacks and relaxing we continue our paddling.

For this kayaking trip you need slight kayaking experience and you have to be able to swim.

Boat trip Lahti-Heinola-Lahti

Two canal route

A fascinating cruise route on southern Lake Päijänne: two canals and three different lakes. The return journey is made 4 days in a week from June to September. Good coach connections. Travel in one direction by scheduled coach and in the other way by ship. There is a restaurant and café on board.

Päijätsalo Observation Tower and Trails in Sysmä

The Päijätsalo area in Sysmä offers several alternatives for a day trip in varied forest and lake sceneries. The longest circular trail comprises 4.1 km of atmospheric forests and shores of Lake Päijänne. Part of the trail extends to the Päijänne National Park, and its main attraction is the observation tower built in the 19th century. Situated in the middle of the island, the tower offers an impressive view over Päijänne.
The trail starts from the Päijätsalo parking area or, if accessed by boat, from Pyydysniemi. There are several paths in the area, and you can plan your route as you wish. The total length of the trail is 4 km. The trail can be accessed during the snow-free seasons.

Vellamo’s herbal sauna for small groups and families

During the program, you’ll take a slow walk into a nearby forest with professional guide, where you will gather herbs for our foot-baths as well as tree branches for our personal energising power whisks. You will learn about the importance of nature in Finnish culture, Finnish
folklore as well as herbal medicine and the powers of herbs and plants. After returning to the hotel/cabin, you will learn about sauna etiquette and the effects of the sauna.

You will start aromatic herbal sauna with facial masks and foot-baths. The traditional sauna healer will guide you through the sauna session. Afterwards you’ll feel relaxed and as if you were born again!

Kelvenne Trail

The Kelvenne Trail passes through the Päijänne National Park, taking walkers from beautiful sandy beaches to peaceful forests and tops of high eskers. It’s an easy-to-follow path with lovely views. Kelvenne is an esker island formed during the Ice Age, and effects of the Ice Age can also be seen in the eskers, kettle holes and sheltered bays. The start and end points of the Kelvenne trail are in the south of the island (Kirkkosalmi) and in the north (Likolahti), and the trail can be walked in either direction. The trail passes through the entire island, winding along beaches as well as high eskers. The total lenght of the trail is 9 km.
Kelvenne Island can be reached either by scheduled boat, taxi boat or by kayaking.

Lemmenharju nature trail in Vierumäki

Lemmenharju nature trail near the Sports Institute of Finland in Vierumäki is one of the most charming attractions of the Salpausselkä Geopark. The trail travels on top of steep ridges and follows the shores of clear-watered little lakes.
The trail consists of Suurharju scenic trail and a walk around Lake Ahvenlampi. The Suurharju scenic trail alone is 2.4 kilometres long, and the total length of both parts is 4 kilometres. The trail starts from the north side of the main building (Kaskela) of the Sports Institute, down by sparkling Lake Valkjärvi that reflects a green landscape.
Lemmenharju nature trail can be walked clockwise or anticlockwise, following the painted orange markings in the trees. Two campfire sites are provided at the shore of Lake Valkjärvi, and there are benches for resting along the trail. It is also possible to take a swim beside the nature trail at the swimming spot of Lake Valkjärvi or at the beaches of Lake Saarijärvi and Lake Suurijärvi.

Pirunpesä Gorge and Tiirismaa hill

The monumental Pirunpesä Gorge is a cliff fissure cutting through the quartzite rocks of Tiirismaa and has been a well-known visitor attraction since the 1800s. The walls of this impressive rock formation are up to 20 metres tall. Pirunpesä, which translates literally as Devil’s Nest, is one of the most important geosites of the Salpausselkä UNESCO Global Geopark. A marked hiking trail of 4,5 km passes by Pirunpesä. The trail can be reached from the parking area at road “Arvi Hauvosen tie”.
You can also reach Pirunpesä from Lahti Sport Centre through Salpausselkä gravel routes.

Tiirismaa cliff area is nationally recognised for its value in terms of nature and landscape conservation. The originally high mountain has been eroded in the course of time, but is still the highest point of southern Finland, 223 m.

Watersport and Outdoor Activities

Jannen Kalastus ja Kayakki offers kayak, canoe, SUP board rentals and transport services in the Lahti, Vääksy and Padasjoki areas. Paddle to Päijänne National Park and spend the night on one of its largest islands, Kelvenne, or take a kayaking day trip and enjoy outdoor barbecue at the nearby Pernasaari.

We offer a selection of SUP boards, kayaks, canoes and additional services. Our friendly staff is glad to assist you. Our shop in Vääksy is located right by the water only 200 metres from the beach.

For larger groups, please contact us in advance to ensure that there is enough equipment available. It’s best to book 3–40 days in advance so that we can make sure that to get you exactly the equipment you want.

Paddling is one of the most memorable and wonderful ways to spend a summer day and offers a great chance to admire the beautiful Finnish nature! Gather your friends and family and embark on a trip of the waterways of Asikkala. Make a day trip kayaking around Salonsaari Island or take a paddle in Päijänne National Park and Kelvenne island and enjoy the breathtaking natural landscape. Taking due care of safety, you can also paddle across the Vääksy canal to Lake Vesijärvi, which is 3 metres higher than Vesijärvi.

The nearby Pernasaari island is located 2.5 kilometres from the beach and it features a designated municipal area for recreational use. Close to this is also offered a beautiful and shorter river route.

Kammiovuori Trail

Located in Vintturi, Sysmä, Kammiovuori (“Chamber Mountain”) is the highest spot in the Eastern Häme (Tavastia) region, offering breathtaking views over the region’s forests and lakes. The trail passes through atmospheric, hilly forest terrain. Interesting sights along the path include the impressive, seven-metre boulder named “Linta”, and Hiskias’s cave. The cave is named after a vagabond who, according to local legend, used to live in the cave at the beginning of the 20th century. Despite the challenging terrain, Kammiovuori is a popular destination for families with children, as well.
The trail starts from the parking area and goes up through a mixed, mostly coniferous forest towards Kammiovuori. The total length of the trail is 4 km. The trail is accessible during the snow-free seasons.

Shooting the rapids with a rubber boat through the foaming waters of Kuusa gets your blood going!

Kuusaa white water river floats just next to Varjola Resort, so you can hop on from the yard. After rafting downstream, we will head back upstream to shore by boat channel.

Our experienced activity guides provide you a safe rafting adventure down 600 meters of river stream. Program includes full guiding and all necessary equipment’s including helmet and life jacket to guarantee your safety.

The program takes about 45 minutes which includes equipment change before and after, safety instructions, guiding, rafting downstream and coming back to upstream.

The Seitseminen Nature Centre is a treasure trove of nature information and a year-round base for hikers. Its exhibitions take you on a hike through a deep forest. You can also enjoy a cup of coffee. Aulanko Nature Reserve

Aulanko has been a popular destination with visitors for more than a hundred years. Nowadays, there is a lot to see in Aulanko Nature Reserve, in addition to the beautiful scenery. The forest park of Aulanko, its sights, and the view from the scenic lookout tower of Aulangonvuori Hill over the national landscape attract more than 400 000 visitors every year. The English-style park, which forms a part of the nature reserve, was constructed in 1883 – 1938 and, with its buildings and cultural history, it is a nationally valuable site. The forest park of Aulanko has had a significant impact on the Finnish park culture. Nowadays, Aulanko area belongs to the first National Urban Park in Finland (hameenlinna.fi).

You don’t have to be an expert in paddling: our 2-seated canoes are safe and steady, and we will give You thorough instructions before paddling.

We recommend bringing clothes suitable for the weather, something to drink, a hat and maybe sunglasses.

Price: 450 eur 1 – 6 persons, additional persons 30 eur. Price includes all equipment used in paddling and guide services.

Aulanko Tower

Aulangonvuori Hill is dominated by a 33-metres-tall granite tower built during 1906 – 07. This landmark-like tower resembles a castle tower, and it is designed by architect Waldemar Aspelin.
One of the Finnish national landscapes, the valley of Lake Vanajavesi, can be seen from the scenic lookout tower of Aulangonvuori Hill. The tower is open from 8 am to 7 pm daily during the summer. Admission is free.

Aulangon Tornikahvila

Lookout Cafe Aulanko – an oasis in the national landscape.

You will find the tower café by the Aulanko historic observation tower. Take a refreshing break in the tower cafe during hiking in the park. In the surroundings of the café you will find the magnificent scenery of the observation tower, the Karhuluola (Bear Cave) and many other interesting sights to see!

Ahvenisto Outdoor and Nature Reserve

Ahvenisto Ridge area is a popular outdoor district in Hämeenlinna. At its core is the 64-hectare nature reserve, of which six hectares are primeval forests. There are many marked exercise and outdoor trails, a sawdust track and forest paths in the area. Rare vegetation can be seen in Ahvenisto. Häme pasque flower, wich is the county flower of Häme, grows in the area.

Lake Ahvenisto is a popular place for swimming. In winter you can go ice swimming. The Ahvenisto sauna can be rented by anyone and there are also general sauna shifts. Ahvenisto also has an outdoor swimming pool built for the 1952 Olympics’ modern pentathlon swimming section. Other pentathlon competitions were also competed in Ahvenisto. There is a small Kahtoilampi bond on the other side of the Ahvenisto Ridge and on further north Hirvilampi bond.

In addition to swimming and jogging, you can play beach volley, go SUP boarding or climb in the trees of Flow Park tracks. There is a hut near the beach where you can light a campfire. During the summer there is a cafe near the beach.

In winter, there are skiing trails and several toboggan slides in Ahvenisto.

Walk safely over Finland’s deepest bog along sturdy duckboard trails.
