Route description

  • Tampere Region

    Day 1

Tampere is defined by a few unique characteristics: it is surrounded by beautiful lakes and eskers; it has a perfect scale for walking and there’s always something new and innovative going on. The centre of the city is dominated by industrial heritage; the national landscape of Tammerkoski rapids and historical red brick buildings.

As the Sauna Capital of the World, Tampere offers an easy insight to the Finnish sauna culture, not too different from the Latvian one.

Start by taking a stroll along the riverbanks of Tammerkoski rapids, walks through the Tampella and Finlayson old factory areas and visit the interesting historical museums in Museum center Vapriikki and the Finnish Labour Museum Werstas.

Enjoy the old Stable Yards, the old atmosphere, Finnish design and a nice cup of coffee.

For the evening, try one of the public saunas in town. Choose a modern sauna-restaurant Kuuma or the oldest public sauna in Finland, the 119 yrs old Rajaportti sauna.

  • Jyväskylä Region

    Day 3

Jyväskylä is a city that proudly celebrates its connection to the renowned architect Alvar Aalto. His legacy is deeply embedded in the cityscape and the region surrounding the town: in the Jyväskylä Region you’ll find the largest number of masterful buildings in the whole world designed by the world-famous architect and academician Alvar Aalto.

Explore Alvar Aalto architecture starting from the Aalto2 Museum Centre. Stroll through the University campus designed by Aalto all the way to the pedestrian street. Sit down for a coffee in the bistro café in Church Park and pop a visit to the Craft Museum of Finland close to the park.

To have an overview of the town take the rock stairs up to the Harju ridge and take a lift to the viewing tower. Every evening from June to August, the Evening Song is played from this tower at 8 p.m. It is a sign to the city residents to start the evening. Maybe it is a sign also for you to move to the harbour area for dinner and a nice evening in the Sauna Restaurant or one of the ship restaurants. Or maybe you prefer a dinner cruise to the lake…
