A snowshoe hike in the dark is an unforgettable experience where you get to immerse yourself in the enchanting atmosphere of the winter forest in a different way than in daytime. If the sky is clear, you can also admire the night time starry sky, and if you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

We start the journey from the front of Nature Center Ukko and explore the beautiful viewpoints of the peaks, as well as the forests on Kolinuuro. During the hike, we take breaks to fully experience the darkness. A wilderness guide shares insights about Koli’s history, nature and its significance to Finnish cultural heritage.

No prior experience in snowshoeing is required. Participants are provided with secure and early-to-use snowshoes, suitable also for more challenging terrains. Poles are also available if needed. You will also have a powerful Lumonite headlamp.

This hike includes elevation changes, making the route more demanding and adventurous. It’s a physically active experience, but not a demanding performance. The pace of the hike is kept moderate but you are likely to break a sweat!
