Local produce market at the Pienmäki Farm Buildings
Lively market atmosphere fills the yard of the Pienmäki Farm Buildings Museum in September when the museum participates in Hankasalmi’s harvest weekend event for the first time. During the weekend, local farms and rural enterprises open their doors to visitors, so it is well worth making the trip to Hankasalmi also from further afield!
At the Pienmäki’s local produce market you will find handcrafted jewellery, accessories, and gift items as well as farm products from the following vendors:

Helena Huovila – Knitted and felted wool slippers
Joel Rahkonen – Seedlings of edible and ornamental plants as well as small handmade ceramic and bronze sculptures
Jukka Lehtoniemi – Mustard, sea buckthorn jam, honey as well as eyeglasses cleaning spray
Museokauppa Sparvin – Selection of Museum Shop Sparvin’s most popular products
Saana Hernesniemi – Different kinds of jams, herbal salts, and syrups
Sarvi Soppi – Nature-oriented jewelry and souvenirs made from reindeer and moose antlers
Tiina Susanna – Spruce resin salve, traditional Finnish natural product
Villa Niemelä – Yarns, pelts, wool, and various meat products
Virva Kauhanen – Jewellery, mirror art, and boxes
The atmophere is enlivened by Kuhnurit, which is a band by students of the music programme of Schildt Upper Secondary School. Their setlist ranges from jazz to Finnish schlager and country music. The band performs on the museum’s yard at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Duration about 30 min. Refreshments will also be available.
Villa Niemelä, a local sheep farm, brings their ponies and sheep along to keep an eye on the market buzz and to enjoy being petted.
At the Pienmäki Farm Buildings Museum you can experience old-time rural atmosphere. In the activity corner of the cowshed, visitors of all ages can find a wide range of entertainment. Admission to the museum is free.
