The 75 km long Wanha Witonen paddling route begins in Petäjävesi and continues through Koskenpää past Jämsänkoski and the town centre of Jämsä all the way to Lake Päijänne.

The starting point in Petäjävesi is the Kirveslahti marina. Right at the beginning of the route you can visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Old Church of Petäjävesi. If you start the route from Jämsä, an optional departure point is Kievari Rantapirtti which offers a variety of services.

The diverse route includes lake sections, river stretches and rapids, making it suitable for both short day trips and overnight adventures. The paddling route is suitable for paddlers and rowers of all ages and fitness levels. You can choose faster rapids to match your own style, or bypass them using the portage trails on land. The character of the rapids varies depending on water levels: during high water they provide a fast and exciting ride, while in summer they become calmer flowing areas, with navigable channels even in low water conditions.

Along the route there are equipped landing sites marked with yellow triangles. From the Kirveslahti marina, it is a 5 km paddle to the first rest stop, Pirkonsaari. Accommodation and attractions can be found along the way.
