Tampere Art Museum’s beautiful red-brick building has stood on the edge of Pyynikintori Square since 1838. Originally built as a granary, it opened to the public as an art museum in 1931.

The nearly 100-year-old museum is currently undergoing a major transformation. A new main museum building will be constructed next to the historic granary, creating a renewed home for the museum. The museum building closed to the public on 14 June 2026 for a comprehensive renovation and expansion project. The renewed Tampere Art Museum is scheduled to reopen at the turn of 2029–2030.

During the renovation, Tampere Art Museum will continue to present temporary exhibitions in temporary venues across the city. For example, the Young Artist of the Year exhibition will continue to be held annually. Follow the museum’s channels to stay up to date with our programme and news!
