Ritakoski in Hiitolanjoki River

The Hiitolanjoki River, known as an important upstream migration route for Lake Ladoga salmon, is located in Rautjärvi near Simpele. Of the river’s three restored rapids, Ritakoski is the one closest to Highway 6.
There is a small parking area in the yard of the power station, from which visitors can easily access the scenic trail along the Hiitolanjoki River. The route includes ascents and stairs, so although it is short, it requires basic fitness and some agility from visitors.
Ritakoski was restored in 2023, and tourism services are planned for the area. In the summer of 2026, a summer café will operate on the site.
