Visit websiteThe Hiitolanjoki River, known as an important upstream migration route for Lake Ladoga salmon, is located in Rautjärvi near Simpele. Of the river’s three restored rapids, Lahnasenkoski is the middle one.
Lahnasenkoski can be reached by car via Highway 6 from Änkilänmäki, or on foot from the direction of Ritakoski along a scenic nature trail. From the Lahnasenkoski parking area, a path leads uphill to Lahnasenmäki and onward to Ritakoski. In the opposite direction, the trail soon turns into duckboards as the terrain becomes flatter.
By crossing the bridge, visitors can reach the other side of the river, where it is possible to enjoy a picnic or grill sausages at the Lahnasen shelter with barbecue facilities. Outdoor toilets are located near the power station building as well as close to the barbecue shelter.
The area, including the power station facilities, is free and owned by the South Karelia Recreational Area Foundation. Lahnasenkoski was restored in 2022, and tourism services are planned for the area in the future.
