Radio and Telephone Museum of Petäjävesi

The Petäjävesi radio and telephone museum is maintained by a voluntary basis organization founded in 1995. The collections are on display at the former nursing home of Petäjävesi, dating 1916. The 350 square meter exhibition exists in the attic of the building.

The collections consist of over 3800 recorded items and numerous paper documents. The oldest radio is from 1921 (Finnish 1924), the oldest thermionic (radio) valve from 1918 and the oldest telephone from 1880. Our main goal is to preserve the electronic communication history of Finland. Therefore we have unique collections of Finland’s biggest manufactures (ASA, Helvar, Salora and also Philips’ subsidiary of Finland). Finnish and foreign military and professional equipment has its own collection.

In order to get to the main exhibition area the visitor has to use the staircase. Some items are available for the disabled as well.
