Visit websiteMikkeli has dozens of beaches all around the city for visitors to enjoy. The beaches are maintained during the summer season from June 1st to September 30th. Swimming is possible outside of the season, but please note that many amenities may not be available during off-season.
Pitkäjärvi beach is located about 2 km from Mikkeli centre. The beach has a basketball court and a beach volleyball court. The beach also has a pier and a wheelchair ramp to the water. Other amenities include changing-rooms, a toilet and a life boat.
Kaihu beach at Mikkelipuisto has a beach volleyball court, jumping tower and a playground for children. The beach has a life boat. The terrain is partially elevated, so not all areas are easily accessible for people with mobility issues. The Kaihu beach has an on-duty lifeguard during summer season (for times when lifeguard is present please see Mikkeli city website).
Pankalampi beach is located about 1 km from Mikkeli marketplace. The beach has two piers, a diving board, a beach volleyball court, changing-rooms and a toilet. During winter there’s an ice hole at Pankalampi for winter swimming.
Please note that it is forbidden to walk or swim with dogs at public beaches. Fishing and cleaning fish on the piers is also forbidden for reasons of safety and hygiene. Parents are responsible for the safety of their children.
