Buy onlineNikkinen Croft is located in Suomenniemi. From the end of the 19th century, the residential building was owned by police officer Matti Nikkinen (1860–1943), who was a well-known and active influencer in his community. The building served as a library from the 1920s to 1950s. Later, a sewer had her apartment in the room equipped with a furnace.
In a land exchange between the parish and the municipality, the farm was transferred to Suomennimi municipality at the end of the 1970s. The Suomenniemi Local Heritage Association started storing artifacts in the farm that belonged to constable Nikkinen, which was opened to the public in 1981. In connection with the municipal merger in 2013, the farm became the property of the city of Mikkeli.
Nikkinen Croft is open only during the Suomenniemi week in July, and the Suomenniemi Local Heritage Association takes care of keeping it open. Changing exhibitions are organized in the Croft’s chamber.
