The Lieviskänjoki canoeing route offers diverse and interesting canoeing experiences on the border of Puumala, Ruokolahti and Sulkava. The route has seven rest stops, three of which have a lean-to. The total length of the route is approximately 25 km. The longest distance between rest stops is approximately 5.7 km. By following sheltered rivers and narrow lakes, canoeists can enjoy rapid views and peaceful landscapes.

The bends and curves of the route constantly reveal new sights and destinations. When you move to the Saimaa side, you have the opportunity to meet rare Saimaa seals, which makes the canoeing route even more interesting. The Lieviskänjoki River and the small ponds connected to it are sheltered, and you can paddle the approximately 7 km section of the river with almost no wind.

Lieviskänkoski and Lieviskänjoki are, along with Miettula Rapids, another water area in the Puumala fishing area that, when restored, is suitable as a habitat for fish species that spawn in running waters. Therefore, the restoration of the rapids has a wider significance for the vitality of Puumala’s endangered fish stocks. Now, you can explore the upper reaches of the rapids by walking along a new pedestrian bridge. Lieviskänkoski is also along the new Bridges and Ferries (Sillat ja lossit in Finnish) cycling route.

You can download the route map from our website.
