The church of Kuhmo is situated in a beautiful location along the Pajakkakoski area, alongside Kuhmo’s riverside promenade. The church accommodates up to 1500 people and is used for religious services as well as concerts. In the summer, it also serves as a wayside church.

The church was built in 1816 but became unusable due to damage sustained during the Winter War bombings. It was restored to its current form in 1985. The original designer of the cruciform church reflecting the neoclassical style of the time was Jacob Rijf from Pietarsaari. The bell tower was constructed in 1862 based on the drawings by Carl Ludvig Engel.

In 1999, Sotkamon Urkurakentajat Oy manufactured new 38-stop organs representing Nordic romantic style for the church.
