Jyväsjärvi Ice Skating Trail

The Jyväsjärvi Ice Skating Trail offers a unique way to enjoy winter right next to the city centre of Jyväskylä. The trail stretches across the frozen lake and varies in length from 1.2 to 3.2 kilometres and it is suitable for ice skating and kick-sledding. The trail is created each winter depending on weather conditions and is usually opened in January or February.

The trail is not maintained daily, but it is ploughed when needed. The surface is frozen and reinforced according to weather conditions. Skaters move counter-clockwise, and different skating styles have their own recommended lanes to ensure smooth movement.

-Use the right side of the trail when skating with poles
-Use the left side with figure skates or hockey skates
-Use the middle lane with touring or speed skates

The trail starts near Satamakatu and is easy to reach on foot or by public transport from the city centre. You can rent touring skates on winter weekends from the Harbour café.
