Festival X TAI-WAN? – Gems of Taiwanese folk music

Kaohsiung Traditional Orchestra Taiwan brings to Mikkeli the finest gems of traditional Taiwanese chamber music. Reflecting the multifaceted landscape of Taiwanese folk music, this concert features compositions made for the wind-instrument suona, as well as music for kezaixian and daguangxian string-instruments.

Particularly fascinating in this concert is the composition Qalang Smangus Evening, Sacred Tree Grove by Chung Jeng, with its influences from the musical traditions of the indigenous peoples of Taiwan. Another interesting piece is Chen-Nan Huang’s Hundred-Pace snake on the Ceramic Pot, which captures the lively essence of old Taiwanese folk stories.
