Botanical Art Garden in Joensuu

Botania is a botanical garden and art venue in Joensuu, Eastern Finland. It consists of an indoor greenhouse with tropical and exotic plants, and an outdoor garden of about 4 hectares with flower beds, perennial areas, water features, and seasonal art displays.

Botania is the only botanical garden in Europe that operates without public funding. In summer, the greenhouse becomes the world’s northernmost tropical butterfly garden. In winter, the entire garden is transformed by snow, ice, and light installations.

At the end of November, during the darkest time of the year, Botania hosts its main event, Visual Festival. It is one of Finland’s most international visual art festivals, transforming the outdoor garden into a surreal and immersive world.

Botania is open every day. It attracts a wide range of visitors, serving both as a living room for locals and as one of the fastest-growing tourist attractions in Eastern Finland.
