Visual Festival Joensuu 2026 – International Light Art Festival

When November brings darkness to Eastern Finland, Botania’s 4.5-hectare outdoor garden in Joensuu awakens in a completely different way. Visual Festival transforms the botanical garden into an immersive world of light, art and nature.

Visual Festival is an international visual arts festival created and artistically directed by Finnish light artist Kari Kola. Its distinctive character comes from the peaceful atmosphere of Botania: visitors can wander through the garden at their own pace, pause by the artworks and experience the surroundings without hurry. Even with thousands of visitors, the spacious setting leaves room to breathe, wonder and simply be present. The experience is suitable for visitors of all ages.

The theme of Visual Festival 2026 is HOPE – a counterforce to uncertainty and darkness. The programme features 12 works by Finnish and international artists, combining light, sound, movement, nature and interactive elements.

Please note: Visual Festival takes place in Botania’s outdoor garden. The indoor botanical gardens are closed to the public during the festival week and throughout the event.
