Welcome to the Finlayson Area – a destination for culture, events, entertainment and experiences!

The Finlayson Area is a popular business and cultural hub in the heart of Tampere, set in the beautiful national landscape of the Tammerkoski rapids. Here, history and modern life meet among the red-brick factory buildings. The historic district dates back to the Finlayson cotton mill, established in the 1820s, around which the city of Tampere grew.

Today, the Finlayson Area is known for its diverse cultural offerings and events, most of which are free of charge. The area is home to more than one hundred businesses, including shops, restaurants, cafés, a cinema and museums. Its wide range of attractions and atmospheric surroundings make the Finlayson Area a unique destination to visit.

There is plenty to see and experience in the Finlayson Area throughout the year. Whether you prefer to take it easy or are looking for new experiences and adventures, there is something for everyone. You can explore the tunnels of the 200-year-old factory or take in the views from the rooftops of the historic buildings on Finland’s only rooftop walkway. The Finlayson Factory Garden showcases biodiversity throughout the year, with plants and greenery extending across the historic factory district.

A new chapter in the history of the Finlayson Area is now underway with a major redevelopment project. Scheduled for completion in summer 2027, the renewal will bring an even wider range of services to the area, including a diverse selection of restaurants and cafés.

The Finlayson Area is owned by Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company.
