Wanha Witonen canoeing route part 2
The Wanha Witonen canoeing route starts in Petäjävesi, passes through Koskenpää, and continues past Jämsänkoski and Jämsä town centre all the way to Lake Päijänne.
The starting point in Petäjävesi is the Kirveslahti marina. Right at the beginning you can admire the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Old Church of Petäjävesi. If you start the route from Jämsä, an optional departure point is Kievari Rantapirtti which offers a variety of services. The total length of this scenic route from Petäjävesi to Lake Päijänne is about 75 kilometres.
This diverse route includes lake sections, river sections, and rapids, making it suitable for both short day trips and overnight adventures. Along the way, you will find sights, accommodation options, and other services. The canoeing route is suitable for paddlers and rowers of all ages and fitness levels. You can choose to take the faster rapid sections or bypass them using the portage routes that run along the shore. The nature of the rapids varies depending on the water level: during high water, they offer a fast and lively ride, while in summer they are calmer flow spots with a navigable channel even in lower water conditions.
