Finnish author Ilmari Kianto, from the Kainuu region, was one of the most important writers in Finland during the 20th century. During his life, he wrote over 60 works, which described the lives of struggling people in Kainuu.

The house of this famous author – Turjanlinna – was destroyed in a fire during the Winter War in 1939. Some of the smaller buildings still exist, and work as an outdoor museum during the
summer.

We recommend visiting Turjanlinna by Kianta-boat cruises, even though getting there by land is possible. During the cruise and the tour, a guide tells the group about the life of Ilmari Kianto and the history of Turjanlinna.

The tour is not accessible. The terrain is rocky and there are a lot of roots. The rocks might also be slippery after rain. In total there will be about 400 meters of walking in the museum area. From the dock to the buildings leads a staircase of about 30 steps, with a handrail.

The Kianta-boat does cruises to Turjanlinna daily 23.6.-10.8.2025 at 11 and 15 o’clock (the length of the cruise is two hours).

The price of the cruise is 20 €/person and children 10 €/person. For groups of over 20 people there is a discount of 10%. Charter cruises for groups of over 20 people are possible outside of the daily cruises. Tickets can be bought from the Kianta-boat, the sale starts half an hour before the start of the cruise. Card, cash, or billing work as payment types.
The location of this attraction on this site is marked as the starting point of the cruises.
