Tampere Film Festival is an international short film festival that gathers filmmakers, students and film lovers together annually in March.

The 56th edition of Tampere Film Festival will be held on 4–8 March. The festival week includes more than one hundred film screenings at Finnkino Cine Atlas and Arthouse Cinema Niagara. In addition to film screenings, the festival also hosts events open to the general public as well as events aimed at film industry professionals.

At the heart of the programme are the competition screenings in the festival’s prestigious competition categories: the International Competition, the National Competition, and the Generation XYZ Competition dedicated to genre films. The competitions culminate in the Awards and After Party on Saturday, 7 March.

In addition to the competition screenings, the festival will present a wide range of themed programs and several interesting special screenings. This year’s programme includes a theme screenings on religion entitled Faith, short films from Southeast Asia, retrospectives by directors Ulla Heikkilä and Rúnar Rúnarsson, and a documentary about Tampere’s legendary Vastavirta-Klubi.

The eventful week will also feature free screenings, such as Minikino screenings aimed for children, and the now traditional silent film screening at Tampere Cathedral, which this year will be the German silent film masterpiece The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.
