Buy onlineDiscover the warmth and magic of a traditional Finnish Christmas during a seven-night stay at the cosy, Guesthouse Pihlajapuu in North Karelia. Surrounded by snow-covered forests and frozen lakes, you will enjoy an authentic introduction to Finnish country life before the festive season begins.
Together with your local hosts, make Christmas decorations and ice lanterns, bake Karelian pasties, gingerbread and Christmas pastries, and follow the enchanting Elf Trail through the forest. Search for your own Christmas tree and prepare a special treat for the birds and animals.
Weather permitting, enjoy snowshoeing, hiking or kick-sledding around Lake Viemenjärvi, including a campfire break. You will also visit the small town of Nurmes and experience its Christmas atmosphere.
Relax each evening with a different Finnish sauna experience, including a wood-heated sauna, honey sauna, wellness sauna, foot-bath sauna and traditional smoke sauna.
The week culminates in a Finnish pre-Christmas celebration with rice porridge, warm berry glögi, a festive meal, Christmas sauna and a visit from Santa Claus or Mrs Claus. Homemade meals are prepared from local and seasonal ingredients. Suitable for couples, friends, families and solo travellers; no previous winter activity experience is required.
