Kyröskoski is one of Finland’s most impressive rapids with its 22-meter drop. Kyröskoski is considered to be the Hämeen Hälläpyörä, one of the three great rapids mentioned in the Kalevala, which is an epic poem compiled from Finnish folk lore in the 19th century.

Around the power plant’s pool, Hälläpuisto Park has been built. Industrialization at the rapids began in the 1860s, and today, the area is home to the Metsä Board Kyro paper mill, which operates on energy produced by a bio-power plant completed in 2012.

Throughout its history, Kyröskoski has also fascinated artists, writers, and explorers. Every year, spectacular rapids shows are held on the 1st of May, Midsummer Day, some Saturdays in July, and during the Landefest event in August. Guided tours are available for groups by reservation.
