This concert features a unique version of Jean Sibelius’ Finlandia as adapted to an Asian orchestra, with Mikkeli Festival Choir performing the choral parts.
Visiting conductor for this concert is Ho-Chung Yeh, with violinist Lü Siqing performing as the soloist. Lü Siqing is a virtuoso violin artist, who in 1987 became the first Asian to win the Paganini contest. He will be performing one of the most well-known concertos in China, Zhan-Hao Hen’s and Gang Chen’s The Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto, which intertwines traditional Chinese myths with Western symphonic traditions.
Bring the concert to conclusion is Nai-Chung Kuan’s Charm of Formosa, which celebrates the cultural diversity and natural beauty of Taiwan. This composition transports the listener into historical Formosa with its gorgeous natural vistas and vibrant cities.
Tickets to this concert are sold at lippu.fi. More information available on the Festival X website.
