Visit websiteThe memorial house located in Paltaniemi, Kajaani is a replica of Finnish national poet Eino Leino’s birth home. It tells the story of two great Finnish authors, Eino Leino and Elias Lönnrot. Lönnrot wrote for example the Finnish national epic Kalevala.
The house is open to tourists in the summer and upon agreement in the winter. The house has a summer café, a book exhibition and a photo exhibition about Eino Leino’s and Elias Lönnrot’s lives. The Eino Leino photo exhibition also contains texts in English and German. There is a photography or visual art exhibition in the nearby Lystinurmi. The building’s outdoor area has a Leino monument, an open view to the great Lake Oulujärvi and the Paltaniemi summer theatre.
The Eino Leino House is ideal for individual tourists and groups. During the opening times visiting is free of charge but it’s advisable to leave a 2 € coin that helps the upkeeping of the house. Private tours subject to a fee are available as necessary. The Keisarintalli (“Emperor’s Stable”) museum and the Paltaniemi old church are also located nearby.
Please note that during the summer 2025, the Saturdays between June 7 and August 16 are reserved for private occasions.
