Located beside the chapel, the Konnevesi War Heroes’ Cemetery is an important part of the town’s history and collective memory. A total of 178 fallen soldiers are buried here, with four more resting in family graves. Each headstone represents a life cut short and a story of sacrifice that continues to echo in the hearts of the local community.

The individual gravestones were consecrated on 28 August 1949. The cemetery layout was designed by architects Aili and Niilo Pulkka, and the central monument was created by sculptor Pauli Koskinen. The unveiling ceremony for the monument took place on 26 May 1960, with Dean Eetu Rissanen delivering the dedication speech.

The Konnevesi War Heroes’ Cemetery is a place of reflection, respect and remembrance. It stands as a quiet reminder of the cost of freedom – and of the enduring gratitude owed to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
