Also known as “Mualiman Napa” (the Center of the Universe), the market square is located in the middle of the city, making it an attraction you will probably see every time you visit the city center. Kuopio Market Square has been in it´s location since 1818.
The stalls of market square offers a variety of handicrafts and clothing, fresh farm products and of course ‘kalakukko’, traditional Savonian fish pies. During the summer, the market square is full of cafés, restaurants and stalls. There is also a tourist info during the summer, offering tips and advice for tourists.
The market square is a great place to start exploring the city. If you are traveling with your own car, you can conveniently park it in the large parking area below the market square. There are several shopping places, restaurants, cafés and attractions around the market square. For example, the market hall (Kauppahalli), one of the Kuopio’s most significant places to visit, is located right next to the market square. On the opposite side of the square is Kuopio’s magnificent town hall.
