Visit websiteFinnish author Ilmari Kianto, from the Kainuu region, was one of the most important writers in Finland during the 20th century. During his life, he wrote 67 works, which described the lives of struggling people in Kainuu.
The house of this famous author – Turjanlinna – was destroyed in a fire during the Winter War in 1939. Some of the smaller buildings still exist, and work as an outdoor museum during the
summer.
We recommend visiting Turjanlinna by Kianta-boat cruises. During the cruise and the tour, a guide tells the group about the life of Ilmari Kianto and the history of Turjanlinna.
The tour is not accessible. The terrain is rocky and there are a lot of roots. The rocks might also be slippery after rain. In total there will be about 400 meters of walking in the museum area. From the dock to the buildings leads a staircase of about 30 steps, with a handrail.
The Kianta-boat does cruises to Turjanlinna during the summer.
The location of this attraction on this site is marked as the starting point of the cruises.
