For those looking for a unique day trip destination, the Angel’s Nest (Enkelinpesä) is a great place to visit. The human figure spreading its wings, the handsome boulder and the ledge cave with its campfire pit are well worth a visit. The Angel’s Nest is one of the Juva Saimaa Geopark sites.

The Angel’s Nest is a large, Ice Age-era veined gneiss erratic boulder, and according to folklore, the cave in the boulder’s vicinity provided shelter from persecution during the Great War. At a height of about one metre, the cave bears vague red marks, thought to represent a human figure. The Angel’s Nest is one of the Juva Saimaa Geopark sites, with a small hut, a campfire site and benches under a rock slab.

The forest path leads to nature

A map of the Hiiden polut hiking trail is available from tourist information offices in Juva and Mikkeli.

The Angel’s Nest is easily accessible by car and bicycle. The Kannuslahdentie parking sign is located about 50 metres before the Enkelinpesä sign and on both sides of the path leading to the site. The location can be found on the VisitJuva website.

The forest path is part of the Hiiden polut network of hiking trails.
